Heating furnace is a kind of equipment used to heat materials or workpieces to rolling into forging temperature. The refractory lining is a part of the heating furnace and is used to protect the inner wall of the heating furnace from high temperature and corrosion. Refractory linings are usually made of refractory materials to ensure that they can withstand high temperature environments.Fireramo has compiled a detailed introduction to refractory linings for heating furnaces in this article.
Heating furnaces are categorized into continuous heating furnaces, pusher-type heating furnaces, regenerative heating furnaces and roller bottom heating furnaces. Depending on the heating capacity, material grade and material shape, we can choose the right type of heating furnace. Heating furnaces used for metal heat treatment are also called heat treatment furnaces. The heating furnace which makes the internal temperature of the ingot uniform is called soaking furnace.
The heating furnace mainly consists of a regenerator, a furnace body that supports and transports the heating elements, a furnace body and a heat recovery system. The main fuels for heating furnaces are oil, natural gas, electricity and coal. Furnace temperature and pressure can be controlled automatically, but can also be controlled manually.
The main function of a heating furnace is to heat billets (billets, blooms, slabs, ingots) to 1000-1250°C (rolling temperature) until they are sufficiently plastic to be rolled in a hot rolling mill to the required cross-section, size or shape. The required rolling temperature varies according to the chemical properties and grade of the material. Depending on the metallurgical properties and productivity of the raw material, the heating rate of the furnace must also meet specific requirements. During processing in a heating furnace, the material is continuously passed through the furnace, thus heating the raw material to a certain temperature.
The role of the refractory lining of a heating furnace is to prevent heat loss from the furnace body and to ensure that the surface temperature of the heating furnace body is low enough to meet safe working conditions, thus contributing to the achievement of fuel consumption targets. The refractory is also designed in a structure that adequately reduces heat loss from the side walls, roof and bottom of the furnace.
Refractories play an important role in controlling energy consumption and improving furnace efficiency. The service life of the refractory lining and the productivity of the heating furnace depend to a large extent on the correct choice of refractory, the design of the refractory and the precise masonry method.
Refractories used in heating furnaces are mainly corundum bricks, high alumina bricks, Fireclay bricks, silica bricks, clay insulating bricks, mullite insulating bricks as well as various kinds of insulating castables such as Plastic Refractory Materials and high alumina castables.
