Refractories for Cement Kilns

The cement kiln is an important piece of equipment used in cement plants for the production of cement, and it requires the use of different types of refractory materials to cope with various challenges such as high temperatures, chemical attack and mechanical stress.

Kiln shell (outer wall)

The kiln shell is the external structure of a cement kiln and is usually made of steel plates coated with a refractory material to protect the plates from high temperatures and chemical attack, as well as insulation to minimize heat loss.
Commonly used refractory materials for kiln shells include high alumina bricks, high alumina castables and silicate fiberboard. These materials have good refractory properties and abrasion resistance and can resist high temperatures and chemical attack.

Kiln shell lining

The kiln shell lining is the part of the kiln that is in direct contact with the fired material and needs to be resistant to high temperatures and abrasion. Commonly used refractory materials include high alumina bricks and magnesia-alumina bricks.
High-alumina bricks have high refractoriness and abrasion resistance and are suitable for most areas of the kiln shell lining.
Magnesium-aluminum bricks are used in the kiln opening area because of their resistance to alkali metals in the fired material.

Refractories Kiln head and kiln tail

The kiln head and kiln tail of a cement kiln require special refractory materials for sealing to avoid heat and gas leakage. Commonly used refractory materials include high alumina castables and fiberboard. High-alumina castables form a dense protective layer at high temperatures and have good refractory properties and wear resistance, while refractory bricks have high refractory properties and can withstand high temperatures and chemical attack.

Kiln liners

Kiln liners are the lining materials inside the cement kiln that are in direct contact with the fired material. Common refractory materials include high alumina castables and refractory bricks. High-alumina castables form a dense lining with good refractory properties and wear resistance. Refractory bricks are used in some areas of the kiln lining due to their high refractory and alkali resistance.

Kiln head and kiln tail sealing systems

Cement kilns require special refractory materials to seal the kiln head and kiln tail to avoid heat and gas leakage. Commonly used refractory materials include refractory castables and fiberboard. Refractory castables fill the gaps and form a sealing layer, while fiberboard has good thermal insulation and corrosion resistance.

Specific refractory selection also needs to consider the design parameters of the cement kiln, process requirements, the characteristics of the fired material and production conditions and other factors, you can tell us specifically about your kiln, so that we can recommend the right refractory materials for cement kilns according to your needs.
